According to <a href="https://www.peoplespharmacy.com/articles/why-do-drug-companies-love-long-lists-of-side-effects" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Peoples Pharmacy</a>, a long list of adverse effects in the inserts may actually <i>not </i>have the effect of discouraging the drugs' use.&nbsp;</p><blockquote><p>We used to think that pharmaceutical companies reluctantly included long lists of side effects because the FDA <i>made</i> them do it. That is no doubt true, but there may be a more self-serving reason.</p><p><strong>Telling patients about lots of nasty adverse reactions might provide a legal defense</strong> in case of litigation. <strong>And people tend to zone out after about the tenth</strong> or eleventh side effect anyway.</p></blockquote><div class="raw-html-embed"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">If the RX side effects list rhymed  <a href="https://t.co/pVTsaB3H2d">pic.twitter.com/pVTsaB3H2d</a></p>— Elle Cordova (@ellerhymes) <a href="https://twitter.com/ellerhymes/status/1774510207646986299?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 31, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async="" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> </div><h2>&nbsp;</h2><h2>Big Pharma guides doctors on presenting side effects</h2><p>Pharma also plays an indirect role in how doctors present the potential for side effects to patients.</p><p>The <i>Washington Post</i> <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/doctors-often-dont-tell-you-about-drug-side-effects-and-thats-a-problem/2017/07/28/830fbaf6-715c-11e7-8839-ec48ec4cae25_story.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">published</a> a piece in 2017 detailing the reasons why many doctors fail to warn patients of a drug's adverse effects, casting light on doctors' training in the area both in medical school and afterwards through continuing education seminars:</p><blockquote><p><strong>Doctors often don’t tell you about drug side effects, and that’s a problem</strong></p><p>… <strong>Doctors learn about drugs in medical school and later during continuing-education programs. But those programs are often funded by drug companies</strong>, according to J. Douglas Bremner, a professor of psychiatry and radiology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta.</p><p>Bremner said <strong>pharmaceutical companies even reach medical students by influencing those who train them.</strong></p><p>“They’re not really trained to be scientists, they’re trained to be apprentices,” Bremner said. “That’s what <strong>the drug companies know </strong>. . .<strong> If they can get the person who trains them to change what they’re prescribing, they can get them to</strong>.” [Emphases added.]</p></blockquote><p>&nbsp;</p><h3>Slides and all</h3><p>Professor Bremner wasn't just conjecturing about continuing education instructors — he was one himself. But he was not like the rest. The drug companies wanted him to use their prepared slides in his presentations, but he eventually saw the bias it created and balked, even though it would mean more work for him as he would need to create the slides himself.&nbsp;</p><p>In actuality, it meant less work — as he was not longer selected as a presenter, sending a message not just to Bremner but to any of his colleagues who might get the idea of preparing their own slides.</p><blockquote><p>When Bremner taught continuing-education sessions,<strong> the pharmaceutical companies that paid him provided the slides. Because the slides seemed to favor those companies’ drugs, he started using his own.</strong></p><p><strong>“When I did that several times, they stopped asking me,” </strong>Bremner said. &nbsp;[Emphases added.]</p></blockquote><p>&nbsp;</p><h3>'The people in control of prescribing drugs know the least about the drugs'</h3><p>If researchers are discouraged from doing their own research and preparing their own slides, what of the physicians who attend their lectures? They “prescribe irrationally,” according to a pharmacology professor. By irrationally, she means irrational from a patient perspective, but perfectly rational from a profit incentive, as newer, more expensive but less tested drugs are preferred to older ones with a lot more information about their safety and efficacy:</p><blockquote><p>Adriane Fugh-Berman, a professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology at Georgetown University Medical Center, said <strong>doctors often “prescribe irrationally,” pushing branded over generic drugs, new over old, and suggesting medication for diseases invented or exaggerated by drug companies.</strong></p><p>“We’re in sort of a bad situation now where<strong> the people in control of prescribing drugs know the least about the drugs</strong>,” said Fugh-Berman, who directs PharmedOut at Georgetown, which researches drug marketing and educates health-care professionals about its influence …</p></blockquote><p>&nbsp;</p><h4>Patient experts</h4><p>The result, according to the professor: patients are left with no choice but to do their own research:</p><blockquote><p>Fugh-Berman said<strong> patients need to become their own experts, researching drugs on websites </strong>— such as the government database <a href="https://medlineplus.gov/">MedlinePlus</a> — <strong>that are "free of [the pharmaceutical] industry."</strong></p></blockquote><p>Independent research gives patients the confidence to challenge a doctor who immediately dismisses a pharmaceutical, whether a medicine or a vaccine, as the cause of a medical issue. In fact, patients should not only know the potential side effects, but should also demand of their treating physician that they not dismiss the pharmaceutical as the cause of a new problem "until proven otherwise."&nbsp;</p><blockquote><p>Doctors have a responsibility to listen to their patients about side effects, too, she said.</p><p>“I tell medical students: <strong>If a patient develops a symptom after they’ve gone on their drug, it’s always the drug’s fault until proven otherwise</strong>,” said Fugh-Berman.</p><p>Amy Thompson, a clinical pharmacist and an associate professor at the University of Michigan’s College of Pharmacy, said <strong>doctors have plenty of knowledge about drugs, but there are so many available they don’t know the possible side effects of all of them</strong>.</p><p>“But they have access to look into it,” she said, referring to online databases, continuing education and pharmacists …</p></blockquote><p>Such foreknowledge empowers parents to be insistent when a doctor asks, “What happened?” the parent responds, “Nothing, except that the child just got a shot,” and the doctor, having learned that the shot is safe, cuts the parent off with, “No, it's not that.”</p><div class="raw-html-embed"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">The medical literature suggests legitimate concerns with certain childhood vaccinations.<br><br>You owe it to your child to check the validity of ANY vaccine regardless of what the pediatrician says. <a href="https://t.co/yMSnxJ6Am0">pic.twitter.com/yMSnxJ6Am0</a></p>— Dr. Simone Gold (@drsimonegold) <a href="https://twitter.com/drsimonegold/status/1740216227329376724?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">December 28, 2023</a></blockquote> <script async="" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> </div><h4>&nbsp;</h4><h4>Cycle of misinformation</h4><p>The <i>Washington Post</i> adds that the faith that doctors have in Pharma's assertions that drugs are safe leads them to fail to ascribe adverse events to the drugs and they therefore fail to report them. This in turn lowers the reported side effect rate, making drugs appear safer than they are.</p><blockquote><p>Marlene Beggelman, founder and chief executive of Enhanced Medical Decisions, a health information technology company in Cambridge, Mass., said <strong>the FDA might be underestimating side effects because doctors often don't report them</strong>. Although the FDA collects reports on its Adverse Event Reporting System, the reporting is voluntary and adverse reactions are considered underreported. <h2>Whose job is it?</h2><p><i>Frontline News </i>recently reported that many <a href="https://frontline.news/post/pharmaceuticals-that-cause-the-very-ailments-they-re-supposed-to-treat-or-prevent" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">pharmaceuticals cause the very ailment they are supposed to treat</a> and that FDA officials concede that, “<a href="https://frontline.news/post/what-safe-and-effective-really-means" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">no pharmaceutical is a hundred percent safe</a>.” So whose job is it to warn patients of potential side effects?</p><h2>The patient's job?</h2><p>The FDA appears to put the onus on patients to discover the potential adverse reactions that may take place after taking a pharmaceutical, <a href="https://www.fda.gov/drugs/information-consumers-and-patients-drugs/finding-and-learning-about-side-effects-adverse-reactions" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">advising</a> people to initiate conversations with their doctors about adverse effects and to check product inserts:</p><blockquote><p>There are several ways to learn about side effects for your prescription drugs and to reduce your risk of experiencing a side effect.</p><ul><li><strong>Ask your health care professional about any possible side effects </strong>and what, if any steps should be taken to reduce the risk when you are prescribed a drug . . .</li><li><strong>Ask your health care professional for information about the drug </strong>when you receive your prescription (FDA approved labeling for patients include Medication Guides and Patient Information). These documents will include possible common and serious side effects.</li><li><strong>Read the pharmacy label</strong> and any stickers that may be attached to the prescription bottle or box. [Emphases added.]</li></ul></blockquote><h2>&nbsp;</h2><h2>The doctor's job?</h2><p>Professor Derjung Tarn <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4347985/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">reported</a> on the extent to which “physicians communicate the adverse effects of medications,” determining that in theory they should follow each pharmaceutical's “Patient Counseling Information section for healthcare providers.”&nbsp;He deems, however, that it's not practicable for physicians to do so. The professor adds that there's actually no data available on just how much adverse event information is commonly passed on by doctors:</p><blockquote><p>Guidelines specify the content of adverse effect education for medications associated with common adverse events, such as warfarin, NSAIDs and aspirin. In addition, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), <strong>prescribing information must include a Patient Counseling Information section for healthcare providers to use when counseling patients.&nbsp;</strong></p><p><strong>However, the information in the FDA prescribing information is voluminous and incompatible with office discussion. Physicians have little guidance about which adverse medication reactions to discuss with patients </strong>and it is unknown which potential adverse effects are commonly discussed by physicians. [Emphases added.]</p></blockquote><p><i>MedShadow </i>also <a href="https://medshadow.org/side-effects-doctor/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">examined</a> the extent to which doctors should mention side effects, concluding that doctors have lots of leeway in order to allow them to avoid discouraging the use of a medication. Like the FDA, they appear to ultimately put the onus on patients to get information on adverse effects:</p><blockquote><p><strong>People are different, and doctors are called upon to use judgment all the time. </strong>Even doctors who try to relay all possible side effects are challenged to know when to stop.<strong> Listing all the rare adverse events could scare the patient out of getting needed care.&nbsp;</strong></p><p><strong>Which side effects are common enough to be mentioned</strong>, and <strong>which are rare enough to be left unsaid?</strong></p><p><strong>This is a good discussion to have with your doctor</strong>. You might not want to know all the possible minor irritations that could be caused by a medicine. A warning of the most significant possible adverse events and a general comment that any new symptoms are probably from the medicine might be all the information you want.</p><p>Others might want to discuss the drug in detail and have a strategy for coping with side effects.<strong> It’s your body, your appointment, and the doctor is your consultant. To put patients at ease, pharmacists need to give them the information they need, listen to their concerns and show empathy …</p><p><strong>The pharmacist should learn about all the medications that the patient is taking. </strong>Then, the pharmacist should talk with the patient to see how well the person understands why he or she is receiving the particular prescription. The pharmacist also needs to address any concerns or issues the patient may have …</p><p>When the pharmacist talks about the medication, he or she needs to cover the following issues – the name and potency of the drug, why the physician has prescribed it and how it works, how to take it, how long to take it, how it will help,<strong> possible side effects</strong>, the amount of time elapsed before the patient will see improvement, and what to do if the patient misses a dose …</p><p><strong>Talking About Side Effects With Pharmacy Patients</strong></p><p><strong>The pharmacist needs to inform the patient about potential common and severe side effects, what the patient can do to prevent or minimize them, and what the patient should do if he or she experiences any of the side effects</strong>, which includes contacting his or her physician, pharmacist or another healthcare provider.</p><p>When talking to the patient, the pharmacist needs to <strong>use language that the patient understands </strong>and lay out the information in a logical order. [Emphases added.]</p></blockquote><p>Another publication geared toward pharmacists, <i>SingleCare, </i>lays out <a href="https://www.singlecare.com/blog/explain-side-effects/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">six way</a>s to avoid frightening patients:</p><blockquote><p><strong>How to explain side effects without scaring patients</strong></p><p>There are always risks when taking drugs—whether they are prescription or over-the-counter medications … As a pharmacist, you have to fully understand, and clearly explain the potential risks to everyone who picks up a prescription.</p><p><strong>How do you explain side effects without scaring patients?</strong> …</p><p><strong>1. Stay calm.</strong></p><p>One of the best ways to put patients at ease is to model composure and compassion when speaking to them …</p><p><strong>2. Explain all the details.</strong></p><p>Everything is a little scarier when you don’t know what to expect …</p><p><strong>3. Suggest calming techniques.</strong></p><p>Remind patients that the medication was specially chosen to make them feel better and return to good health … Offer ways to fend off initial anxiety, like taking some deep breaths together, to help patients stay calm and process the information.</p><p><strong>4. Get to the root of the anxiety.</strong></p><p>Tell patients, “if you communicate a specific reason why you are anxious (for example, you’re worried about becoming addicted to pain medication), that can help me offer more specific advice" …</p><p><strong>5. Remind patients that serious side effects are unlikely.</strong></p><p>… Richard Harris, M.D., Pharm.D., founder of Great Health and Wellness, reassures the patient that none of the side effects are set in stone or absolutely imminent … “I let them know that we are covering a wide range of possibilities and none of them may actually happen. Also, that few medications when used properly lead to permanent or terminal side effects.”</p><p><strong>6. Focus on the positives.</strong></p><p>… “review the direct benefit of the medication over the potential side effects” … Patients who are worried about adverse effects are less likely to take their medications. Brazil's prosecutors have done the same, with&nbsp;<s> </s>131 January 8 protestors having been locked up so far.</p><p>Firmino is a motorcycle courier who had a clean record prior to receiving the abovementioned 17-year sentence. In Firmino's case, he was punished for “celebrating” the acts of other protestors, as the rapporteur of the case pleaded to the court:</p><blockquote><p>Although the defense claims that the defendant's entry into the National Congress took place for tourism, what can be observed is that the <strong>defendant adopted an intense stance of celebration</strong> for the 'taking over' of the building. [Emphasis added.]</p></blockquote><h2>Candidates of the elite</h2><p>Turning to the leaders behind the prosecutions, they share a similarity beyond their Left-leaning policies. Like Joe Biden, Lula da Silva is backed by his nation's elite, as <i>Fox News </i><a href="https://www.foxnews.com/world/who-is-brazils-socialist-ex-convicted-candidate-president" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">reported</a>:</p><blockquote><h3>Who is Brazil's socialist, ex-con candidate for president?</h3><p>. . . Tiago Cortez, a political adviser for Brazil's Republican Party … made the point that<strong> Lula is very popular in elite circles: "Lula is greatly favored by the media, the artistic class and part of the business community</strong>, which spent a decade getting favorable treatment through the National Development Bank. These are sectors that end up making a great financial and media contribution" to his campaign. What of Tedros today?</p><h3>Actual rapists on the healthcare staff</h3><p>Australian Senator Malcolm Roberts argued on the floor of Parliament that the WHO, far from having well-meaning leaders unaware of the child rapes carried out by their subordinates, “is rotting from the head,” <i>Frontline News</i> <a href="https://frontline.news/post/australian-parliamentarian-attacks-who-for-keeping-83-rapists-on-staff-all-answering-to-terrorist-chief" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">reported</a>. WHO refused to fire the perpetrators</strong>, using the absurd argument that their actions didn’t violate WHO’s sexual exploitation practice policies because the victims were not receiving WHO aid; the raping part is okay with Tedros. [Emphases added.]</p></blockquote><h3>Enabling abuse</h3><p><i>Liberty Nation </i>National Correspondent<strong> </strong>John Klar <a href="https://www.libertynation.com/uns-failures-extend-to-gaza/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">reports</a> on even more UN rape scandals, noting that the UN predators were put in positions of power over a population in a nation that was not their home country, arguably increasing the chance of abuse:</p><blockquote><p><strong>Additional UN sex trafficking scandals have been reported in Bosnia and Kosovo, as well as a notoriously ignominious child sex ring organized in Haiti by more than 100 UN personnel </strong>who had been insufficiently screened. Given the attacks on Israel and the <strong>Hamas tactic of clustering civilians as human shields around hospitals, Israeli security precautions appear necessary</strong> to tell friend from foe – the<strong> UNRWA workers who </strong><a href="https://www.libertynation.com/un-agency-workers-backed-hamas-in-word-and-deed/"><strong>joined</strong></a><strong> in the [October 7th] bloodbath are proof</strong> of the profound challenges faced.<strong> </strong>[Emphases added.]</p><p>The space for humanitarian actors shrinks when the terrorists committing unspeakable atrocities are the teachers and social workers themselves. The UN is projecting onto Israel increased tensions and distrust seeded by its recurrent incompetence in preventing Hamas from permeating the organization. <strong>The space for trust of medical personnel and UN and WHO employees shrinks when doctors traffic women on the front lines of wars against disease.</strong></p></blockquote><h3>Systemic problem</h3><p>Klar disputes the idea that the UN has but a few bad apples:</p><blockquote><p><strong>The appeal by the UN for renewed funding for its Gaza agencies is as predictable as horror tales of women and children raped </strong>(and now Jews murdered and kidnapped) <strong>under its lackadaisical watch. </strong>UN authorities claim the entire organization should not be blamed for the actions of the few. But<strong> the war crimes of the few have been enabled by the many, and it is the people of Gaza who suffer the penalty </strong>– whether UNRWA funding is resumed or not. [Emphases added.]</p></blockquote><h3>Everyone at risk</h3><p>The John Birch Society <a href="https://jbs.org/un/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">emphasizes</a> that it's not just atrocities committed by individual UN employees against those unfortunate enough to live in areas in which the UN takes control of which one must beware — every citizen's freedoms are endangered by their policies:</p><blockquote><h3>Where is the UN Heading?</h3><p>From the Arms Trade Treaty intended to <strong>regulate and trace the flow of conventional weapons, including handguns</strong>, around the world to the <strong>onerous environmental controls</strong> of the UN’s Agenda 21/2030, which are designed to curtail every individual’s consumption of natural resources (i.e. clean water, coal, oil, natural gas, and food), the<strong> UN is a recipe for global despotism. </strong>[Emphases added.]</p></blockquote><h3>&nbsp;</h3><h2>Solution</h2><p>The Society is <a href="https://thenewamerican.com/video/get-us-out-of-the-un-goes-mainstream/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">no longer alone</a> in resisting the UN.</p><blockquote><p>For many decades, The John Birch Society has been a lone voice warning about the United Nations’ agenda to usurp the national sovereignty of all nations and, ultimately, create a one-world government. <h2>Boxes meant to save</h2><p>At least <a href="https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/palestinian-reports-5-gazans-killed-when-hit-by-airdropped-us-aid-packages/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">five Gazans were killed</a> today when airdropped food packages landed on them:&nbsp;</p><blockquote><p>Video footage circulating on social media purports to show people being hit by aid packages airdropped into Gaza by countries including the United States.</p><p>Palestinian reports cited by Hebrew media say <i><strong>at least five people were killed near Gaza City when hit directly by the packages, while many more were injured.</strong></i></p><p>The United States military, in coordination with Jordan, Egypt and France, airdropped more than 70,000 meals into northern Gaza over the past week.</p></blockquote><div class="raw-html-embed"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">At least 5 citizens from Gaza were killed when aid packages were dropped by US planes: reports <a href="https://t.co/LG7lkqBzQr">pic.twitter.com/LG7lkqBzQr</a></p>— Yosef Yisrael (@yosefyisrael25) <a href="https://twitter.com/yosefyisrael25/status/1766063571241255400?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 8, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async="" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> </div><h2>Dropped on crowds?</h2><p>While some reports claim that the parachutes on the aid packages <a href="https://www.jpost.com/breaking-news/article-790968" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">did not open</a>, the <i>Jerusalem Post</i> described the true source of the problem: in their effort to remain out of range of RPGs launched against US forces by Hamas fighters, helicopters are forced to fly too high to ensure that the airdropped packages land away from gatherings of people: &nbsp;</p><blockquote><p><strong>Hamas actively works against the distribution of food, attempting to shoot down food drops</strong> from the <strong>United States</strong>, Jordan, and the UAE. The presence of <strong>shoulder-fired missiles adds to the difficulty</strong>, as it becomes <strong>increasingly challenging to deliver aid accurately from a very high altitude</strong>, sometimes resulting in supplies being swept kilometers off course or into the sea [emphases added].</p></blockquote><p>Even without parachutes, the aid boxes would land in empty areas, injuring no one, if the helicopter pilots were able to descend enough to accurately determine the impact site.</p><h2>Keeping the people hungry</h2><p>Governments generally try to avoid hunger in order to prevent food riots from breaking out, as such extreme unrest often leads to regime overthrow. Hamas is different:</p><blockquote><p>A former senior Israeli defense official who I spoke to on condition of anonymity has also said that “<strong>there is no food shortage in Gaza; there are those who are hungry since Hamas has taken all of the [free] food and they don’t have enough money to pay Hamas on the black market</strong>.”</p><p>According to this former official, the food does not reach those who need it most since Hamas controls approximately 70-80% of the area. What happens is that Israel and foreign countries bring food and aid into Gaza. Then gangs take the supplies at gunpoint, and a significant portion of the population is left unable to afford necessities . . .</p><p>While it’s not accurate to say there is a famine in Gaza, there are indeed hungry individuals struggling because they can’t afford food. <strong>Even if Gaza were to be inundated with food supplies, hunger would persist because the issue at its core is not about availability but access and affordability </strong>[emphases added].</p></blockquote><h2>Why?</h2><p>The <i>Jerusalem Post</i> went on to hypothesize that Hamas is creating this food crisis to maintain control:</p><blockquote><p>THE MOTIVE behind targeting food aid is clear: to demonstrate a lack of food and, by extension, an ongoing state of hunger. It includes the building of a seaport that could potentially be used to import military equipment into Gaza, perhaps even tanks:</p><blockquote><h2 style="text-align:justify;">The plan</h2><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>Hamas shook up the status quo in order to push Israel to make concessions it would not make in the absence of a crisis</strong>. <strong><u>Chief among the sought-after concessions</u> is an authorization for the PLO, Hamas, or a third group to operate <u>air and sea ports in Gaza</u> that can be used to bring Iranian and other enemy nations' tanks and fighter planes into Gaza. </strong>The planned agreement may include a signature on a piece of paper agreeing to a “demilitarized state,” but the West Bank and Gaza are already supposedly demilitarized, despite thousands of missiles being shot from Gaza and road bombs being planted in the West Bank, illustrating that it is unlikely any future demilitarization will be enforced.</p><h2 style="text-align:justify;"><span style="background-color:transparent;color:rgb(0,0,0);">Willing to pay the price</span></h2><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="background-color:transparent;color:rgb(0,0,0);">Thus, despite Israel's large military campaign against Hamas, <strong>the setbacks to the terror group are but planned, short-term losses to achieve the goals of demonizing the government and justifying international pressure forcing the government into risky concessions far more significant to the revolutionaries than the loss of even thousands of their fighters</strong> (who can be replaced by new recruits with high salary offers, as long as the flow of Western money continues, or even increases, to allow the "oppressed" population to "rebuild" - some twenty thousand young men turn 18 years old this year in Gaza).</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span style="background-color:transparent;color:rgb(0,0,0);">Hamas is even willing to have some of its leaders leave Gaza while others switch affiliation to the PLO or its subsidiary, the Palestinian Authority, as it is working together with the PLO in a “good cop/bad cop” ploy described below in step 6 and its </span><a href="https://www.economist.com/finance-and-economics/2023/10/19/israel-turns-to-financial-weapons-as-well-as-military-ones" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><span style="background-color:transparent;color:rgb(0,0,0);">payroll </span></a><span style="background-color:transparent;color:rgb(0,0,0);">is already intertwined with that of the PLO:</span></p></blockquote><blockquote><p style="margin-left:40px;text-align:justify;">Some 70,000 Gazans remain on the payroll of the [PLO subsidiary] Palestinian Authority [and claim to not work].</p></blockquote><h2>Executing the plan</h2><p>To execute their plan to vastly increase the military threat to Israel (even if that threat would be in the hands of “former” Hamas members that supposedly defected to the PLO or other groups), Hamas launched a shockingly brutal attack, pushing Israel into a major operation to minimize the threat of a repeat attack. The terrorist organization knew it would thereby bring about the destruction of swathes of Gaza and endanger its civilians, as its fighters are accustomed to embed themselves within the population. They have also been documented seizing and attacking food and aid shipments.</p><p>Then, after Gazans unable to obtain food packages from Hamas stampeded, Israeli troops at a checkpoint were attacked, forcing them to shoot in self-defense and leading to<a href="https://www.timesofisrael.com/idf-probe-into-aid-chaos-says-shots-fired-at-gazans-nearing-troops-not-trucks/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> false charges</a> that they fired on the hungry.&nbsp;</p><p>Joe Biden then <a href="https://www.defensenews.com/congress/2024/03/08/biden-outlines-military-plans-to-build-port-in-gaza-for-aid/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">suggested</a> the “reward” for the attack — a seaport built and paid for by U.S. taxpayers. <h2>No fighting during Ramadan?</h2><p>Joe Biden has repeatedly <a href="https://www.nysun.com/article/washington-using-ramadan-to-press-israel-on-war-but-its-hamas-that-should-be-targeted" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">referenced</a> the Muslim month of Ramadan as off-limits for fighting:</p><blockquote><p>“There’s gotta be a cease-fire because Ramadan — if we get into a circumstance <strong>where this continues through Ramadan, Israel and Jerusalem, then you got — it could be very, very dangerous” </strong>[emphasis added.]</p></blockquote><div class="raw-html-embed"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Here we have a perfect encapsulation of Biden's sad and weak foreign policy. Hamas is claiming that if it doesn't get a ceasefire during Ramadan, it will escalate. Biden responds by pressuring Israel in order to placate a fake threat from terrorists. These are Muharram, Rajab, Dhul Qida and Dhul Hijjah.&nbsp;</p><p>These months are revered and fighting a war is prohibited in them, except in circumstances of extreme self-defence.</p></blockquote><p>The <i>New York Sun</i> <a href="https://www.nysun.com/article/washington-using-ramadan-to-press-israel-on-war-but-its-hamas-that-should-be-targeted" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">addressed</a> the erroneous propaganda surrounding Ramadan:</p><blockquote><p><strong>An erroneous perennial refrain heard from Washington — that it is forbidden, </strong><i><strong>haram</strong></i><strong>, or at least unwise to fight during Ramadan </strong>— is making its return as the ninth month of the Muslim lunar calendar approaches . . .&nbsp;</p><p><strong>A chorus of Washington foreign policy professionals has for years preached that wars and Ramadan do not go together. </strong>At times the argument is that fighting is forbidden in the Muslim religion during the holy month.</p><p>As Ramadan approached in November 2001, weeks after the September 11 attacks, American diplomats, allies in Europe, and Muslim countries urged President Bush to stop the war. “<strong>The enemy won’t rest during Ramadan and neither will we</strong>,”<strong> </strong>Mr. Bush retorted. “We’re going to pursue this war until we achieve our objective.”</p><p>He had a point. As the Middle East Media Research Institute notes in a recent research paper, “<strong>jihad organizations regard Ramadan </strong>not only as a month of abstention and worship, but also <strong>as the month of jihad and martyrdom</strong>” [emphases added.]</p></blockquote><h2>The Ramadan War</h2><p>In fact, in 1973, when Ramadan coincided with the Jewish holy month of Tishrei, Egypt and Syria picked the most sacred day of the Jewish calendar to launch a surprise attack it what became known in the West as the Yom Kippur War. The <i>Times of Israel </i><a href="https://www.timesofisrael.com/worse-than-the-worst-case-scenario-the-dreadful-hours-before-the-yom-kippur-war/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">described</a> the breaking of the Ramadan fast by Egyptian soldiers before their 2 p.m. attack, several hours before sunset would normally mark the end of the fast:</p><blockquote><p>[T]he Egyptian high command repeated its previous order to <strong>break the Ramadan fast.</strong> <strong>Clerics ruled it permissible also to smoke</strong>. <strong>Sadat </strong>could see no one in the command center doing either. The witnessing of a new moon was replaced with a fixed calendar when Israel's <i>Sanhedrin</i> (Supreme Rabbinical Court) was about to be disbanded, around 17 centuries ago.</p><p>When Muhammad established Islam some two hundred years later, in about 610 CE, he also adopted a lunar calendar that included a holy month, Ramadan, and he required that the months be determined by a witness to a new moon. He also passed down a tradition of dawn-to-dusk fasts throughout that month, as opposed to the one full-day fast of Yom Kippur. Many Muslims still <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/explainers-40394103" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">rely</a> on the actual witnessing of a new moon: &nbsp;</p><blockquote><p>Some follow a set lunar calendar, while others use astronomical observations to announce the arrival of the new Moon. There are also those who mark the new month only after personally seeing a crescent Moon in the sky.</p><p>Some Muslims use telescopes to confirm the sighting of the new Moon to determine the Eid al-Fitr [the end of Ramadan].</p><p>So Eid dates differ around the world, though they are usually within one or two days of each other.</p><p>For example, <strong>authorities in Saudi Arabia - the birthplace of Islam, and dominated by Sunni Muslims - announce the start and end of Ramadan depending on testimonies of members of the public who observe the Moon by sight </strong>[emphasis added.]</p></blockquote><p>Thus, it is still not certain when Ramadan will officially begin this year, though it is <a href="https://www.islamicfinder.org/special-islamic-days/ramadan-2024/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">expected</a> to be announced as beginning on Monday, March 11th. Likewise, its end is not yet certain, but is expected to finish on Tuesday, April 9th. Each day's fast is broken at sunset with a meal known as Iftar, pictured at the top of this article.</p><h4>Yom Kippur and Ramadan</h4><p>The 11-day disparity between the length of 12 lunar months and a solar year is made up on the Jewish calendar by the addition of an entire month about once <a href="https://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/526875/jewish/The-Jewish-Calendar-Year.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">every three years</a> in order to meet the <a href="https://www.chabad.org/library/bible_cdo/aid/9980/jewish/Chapter-16.htm#v1" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Biblical requirement</a> that the Holy Days fall in their assigned seasons.&nbsp;</p><p>Lacking the periodic addition of an extra month, Ramadan moves through the solar year, beginning about <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/explainers-40394103" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">11 days earlier</a> on the solar calendar each year. The truth about fighting during Ramadan - Egyptian troops broke fast to launch Yom Kippur War

<p>The Biden administration has adopted the Hamas policy of demanding a Gaza ceasefire <i>without </i>the release of hostages. In what would be "a few days” according to the White House or up to a week according to Hamas, Israel would halt its battle to bring down the Hamas regime without a guarantee of the release of even one hostage.&nbsp;</p><p>During the temporary ceasefire, Hamas would merely commit to negotiate a permanent truce and the possible release of hostages, without even informing Israel which hostages remain alive.</p><h1>We attacked! Now give us a ceasefire</h1><p>Hamas has been demanding a ceasefire since Israel repelled their October 7th invasion, in which they killed over 1,200 Israelis, including hundreds at a musical festival, many after brutal gang rapes, and wounded hundreds more. Some have noted that a ceasefire already was in place, on October 6th:</p><div class="raw-html-embed"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">There was a ceasefire on Oct 6. Israel released three terrorists from prison for each freed Israeli, even for Israeli Arabs who were taken hostage by Hamas during the massacre.&nbsp;</p><p><a href="https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/hamas-says-ceasefire-could-come-in-next-24-hours/ar-BB1jfKVf" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">81 Israelis</a> and 24 foreigners were released during the temporary ceasefire. With the rescue of other hostages and the confirmation of the deaths of over 30 Israelis still in Hamas' hands, there remain less than 100 live hostages, <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-67053011" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">including</a> Thai and Bedouin hostages, held in Gaza.</p><h2>Ceasefire to negotiate a ceasefire</h2><p>During talks aimed at reaching a new ceasefire agreement, Hamas has refused to begin releasing hostages as a truce goes into effect, <a href="https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/hamas-claims-it-needs-a-truce-to-meet-israel-s-demand-for-list-of-living-hostages/ar-BB1jkTvd" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">claiming</a> “it would first need a halt to the fighting to be able to establish which captives were still alive.”</p><blockquote><p>[A Hamas official] added that the hostages “are in different areas with different groups and therefore we have called for a ceasefire to be able to collect the data.”</p></blockquote><p>Initially, the Biden administration <a href="https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/hamas-appears-to-reject-deal-as-mediators-said-pursuing-days-long-pause-to-build-trust/ar-BB1jqaLf" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">rejected</a> the notion of a ceasefire in order to negotiate a ceasefire:</p><blockquote><p>Hamas has said it doesn’t know where all the hostages are, but the US has dismissed the claim, saying the list was “very much a legitimate request” from Israel.</p></blockquote><p>Now, however, the White House has reversed itself, pressuring Israel to halt its efforts to bring down the Hamas regime, and possibly free hostages by force, for “a few days,” as <a href="https://www.wsj.com/world/middle-east/mediators-try-to-buy-more-time-as-israel-hamas-dig-in-heels-on-truce-talks-ea308c7f?mod=world_lead_pos3" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">reported</a> by the<i> Wall Street Journal:</i>&nbsp;</p><blockquote><p><strong>U.S. and Arab negotiators proposed a short pause in fighting in the Gaza Strip to buy time for a longer cease-fire</strong> between Israel and Hamas, as talks appeared stuck with time running out for a deal before a Ramadan deadline.</p><p>Tuesday’s push for a shorter cease-fire—even lasting <strong>a few days</strong>—could prove to both sides that the other is serious about a longer deal, negotiators said . . .</p><p>Mediators are hoping to convince Israel to agree to a <strong>humanitarian pause </strong>that would allow for an increase in the flow of aid, as food and supplies in Gaza . . .</p></blockquote><h2>The hostages can wait?</h2><p>The <i>Times of Israel&nbsp;</i>has <a href="https://www.timesofisrael.com/un-finds-evidence-of-rape-on-oct-7-and-after-israel-they-tried-to-downplay-issue/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><i>reported </i></a><i>that hostages weren't just raped on the day of the invasion. The rapes continue:</i></p><blockquote><p><i>Sex crimes official also says there’s ‘clear evidence’ hostages faced and<strong> continue to face sexual assault in Gaza</strong>, says Oct. 7 victims suffered <strong>‘torture and other horrors’ </strong>. . .</i></p><p><i>The 24-page report, based on more than two weeks of meetings on the ground, states that there are “reasonable grounds” to believe that Hamas committed rape and sexual abuse during its murderous rampage on October 7, and that there is an <strong>even higher standard of evidence to indicate that hostages kidnapped by Hamas that day were subject to rape in captivity</strong> . . .</i></p><p>Pramila Patten, the UN special representative on sexual violence in conflict, said that there was <strong>“clear and convincing information that sexual violence including rape, sexualized torture, cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment” was committed against hostages being held in captivity in the Strip by Hamas.</strong></p><p>In addition, she said, there are “reasonable grounds” to believe that <strong>such violence is still ongoing against those hostages</strong> still in captivity in Gaza.</p><p>“The mission was a difficult one in terms of what we heard and the details,” said Patten at the press conference. “We saw a catalog of<strong> the most extreme and inhumane forms of torture and other horrors</strong>,” she said . . .
